This past Saturday morning at ABA TECHSHOW in Chicago, Josh Barrett, Brett Burney and I presented the 2012 installment of 60 Apps in 60 Minutes. We highlighted some of the best new apps for attorneys as well as old favorites that cannot live without, plus a few others just for fun. Here is a list of the apps that we discussed this year. I put links on the names of the apps that have received a formal review here on iPhone J.D. I think that you will find that this is a good, diverse list of apps for you to explore.
Agenda – calendar ($0.99):
Instacast – podcast organizer and player ($1.99):
Conference Pad – presentations ($4.99):
GoodReader – store documents, annotate PDFs ($4.99):
Action Movie FX – add special effects to movies (free):
I created a short live demonstration of that last app, Action Movie FX, during our presentation. Here is that video. For those of you who attended, you can see yourself being crushed by a helicopter:
I enjoyed talking to many of you after this session and throughout the conference. I hope to see you next year at ABA TECHSHOW 2013 in Chicago, April 4-6, 2013.

Voice Brief, which I’m trying out for the first time thanks to your link, is $1.99 today.
Do you know whether AirDisplay will work to make an iPad a third monitor? I have a laptop running Win7 and an external monitor connected to it via VGA cable.
[Jeff responds: I don’t know. This app was recommended by Brett Burney and I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet.]
Hi Lisa, I don’t have a Win7 laptop, but I tested your scenario with a MacBook Air connected to an external Dell monitor via a VGA cable, and then successfully used an iPad as a third monitor with AirDisplay. It worked great! Let me know if you have any other questions.
I have ditched notes plus because the updates were so buggy. NoteTaker hd is great but has too much of a learning curve for many and no sound recording. I now use notability because it is easy, stable and has sound recording..please consider reviewing it.
I am eagerly awaiting my touchfire keyboard, which will make it much easier to type with. Check put their website and updates on kickstarter….
Great list of apps you have there.
Still waiting for you to review/mention the DocketLaw app (docketlaw.com)
seems like a new app specifically for the legal profession would take some precedence over say your “#43 Sit or Squat”…
[Jeff responds: And just for the record, all of the credit for Sit or Squad on that list goes to Brett Burney. 🙂 ]
Jeff,
i am looking for a reasonable priced app that calls me every 6 or 10 minutes to registrate/note what i am working on. not one of the huge packages at pwc, just a single app.
do you have any ideas?
thx for the interesting compilation.
[Jeff responds: I don’t have any suggestions but perhaps someone else reading this does?]
best regards
chris

AirDisplay is quite capable at making my iPad work as a third external display with my MacBook Pro and Apple LCD display.
