Podcast episode 251: Opening Up a Can 🄫 of AI Lawsuits with Flighty Connections āœˆļø and Avoiding Highways

In the News

I’m glad we waited until Saturday to record this week’s episode of the podcast because there was breaking news on Friday afternoon: Apple sued OpenAI (maker of ChatGPT) for stealing trade secrets from Apple. The complaint in the lawsuit contains very specific allegations, but even aside from the lawsuit’s legal merit, there are huge implications here now that AI is becoming so important to Apple. It appears that ChatGPT has gone from being Apple’s AI partner to Apple’s AI enemy. We also talk about John Gruber’s hope that when John Ternus takes over as Apple’s CEO in a few months, he reverses Apple’s recent trend towards pursuing ad revenue even if it tarnishes the experience of using Apple hardware and software. We also talk about how iOS 27 will help to protect you from hackers, issues that arise when you buy or sell a home with smart home technology, improvements to the Flighty app, and more.

In our In the Vision segment, I share some of my initial thoughts on the new and improved Siri in the developer beta of visionOS 27.

In our In the Know segment, Brett shares lots of tips for using the Flighty app, and I share tips for avoiding highways in driving directions in Apple Maps.
