One of the great traditions of ABA TECHSHOW is to have sessions with a title of 60 ____ in 60 Minutes. The final session of the conference is the very popular 60 Sites in 60 Minutes, and the popular Friday night presentation is 60 Tips in 60 Minutes. In that spirit, last week Reid Trautz and I presented 60 Apps in 60 Minutes, a collection of the most notable apps for attorneys using an iPhone. In many cases, we selected what we considered to be the best apps. In some cases, we mentioned an app just because it served as an example, such as the La. Civil Code app that I picked knowing full well that only Louisiana attorneys would use it, but it is a nicely done app with features that should be copied by others, plus it is an example of the usefulness of having the law of the state in which you practice on your iPhone. And in a few cases, we mentioned an app just because it was funny.
A bunch of you have asked me for the full list of the apps that we discussed. Those who attended will be able to download our slides from the ABA TECHSHOW website later this week, but here is a full list of the apps that we discussed. If you want more information, many of these have previously been reviewed here; click on “iPhone J.D. Index” at the top right to get links to those reviews.

Great list, Jeff. Wish I could have been at TechShow this year. I consider myself an apps hound, though quite a few on there I haven’t tried and a few I haven’t heard of. Couple more I’ll add to your list:
Text Expander. Allows you to create custom text shortcuts that expand into full text. “TCW” can become “teleconference with ” or “esig” can become your full email signature of choice.
Notational Velocity. Note taking app that syncs with the web. Killer fast incremental text searching. Incorporates Text Expander.
You can crank out a lot of text very quickly with the combination of these two apps.
Best,
Josh
I like your list but would add to it, Instapaper. This utility works with both iPhone’s Safari or in most Twitter facilitators and allow you to save web pages that you don’t have time to read, to the Instapaper app which formats them to the iPhone and saves them so that you can read them at your convenience. You don’t have to have web access so I have used it to catch up on plane flights.
Also, Youmail is a very cool app for lawyers. It allows you to customize your greetings for anyone on your contact last or groups.
Excellent list! I would also add the following apps:
Entertainment: ESPN
Utilities: QuickVoice Pro – Voice to Text
Travel: Kayak
Marketing: MarketingProfs
Thanks!
Great list. I’m thinking about taking the plunge with Verizon but am feeling I should wait for version 5. Trying to see if there is something so “have to have” that I shouldn’t wait a few more months. Might we get an updated list soon of best apps for 2011?
[Jeff responds: Yes! We are working on a similar list for this year’s ABA TECHSHOW, and the working draft is full of some real gems.]

Josh, I can’t find Notational Velocity in the Apps Store?
